2021-07-08T10:49:28-07:00

By Ben Rossi Batters Box went into Monday's matchup against the Spradley Collegians looking to make a climb in the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League standings. As a team that has put up strong scoring performances in their victories this season, they were seeking a strong outing from a starting pitcher. They got one from JC Watne. Watne allowed just one run and one hit while striking out seven in five innings of work. He was working his fastball effectively on the outside corner and was perfect through four innings. "I had to make a mechanical adjustment in the first inning [...]

By Ben Rossi Will the real Collegians please stand up? The Mile High Collegiate Baseball League's two Collegians of Boulder and Spradley went head-to-head for the first time on Friday. Each team certainly wanted  to prove they were the superior of the two with that name. Like Wednesday against the Lumberjacks, the Boulder Collegians got two shutout pitching performances from their starters to sweep the doubleheader matchup. Theo Dopkins took the mound for Boulder in Game 1. Despite giving off a leadoff base hit in 4-of-the-five innings he pitched, Dopkins escaped each inning without any run damage by retiring the next [...]

Colorado Cannons Win Marathon 12-Inning Affair Over Denver Generals

2021-07-05T12:56:36-07:00

Thursday's game at Denver Christian High School between the Denver Generals and Colorado Cannons was a marathon of surprises and breakouts, to say the least. In the top of the fourth inning the Cannons had the bases juiced when the rain pelted the field, causing the game to be called off for about a 20 minutes. When the game resumed, the teams took two very different approaches. The Generals who were down by two made a nearly complete lineup overhaul while the Cannons kept their starting lineup in tact throughout the game. Neither approach was really defined as a winner for [...]

Boulder Collegians Sweep Colorado Lumberjacks in Doubleheader Thanks to Two Strong Pitching Performances

2021-07-02T12:55:31-07:00

By Ben Rossi Scoring early and often is a recipe for success that teams should strive for as it takes a major weight off a team's starter for the duration of the game. The Boulder Collegians success as one of the top teams in the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League this season has stemmed from their ability to score in this fashion. "When you score early and often it really takes the wind out of the sails for the other team," said Collegians center fielder Ryan Vogel. The Collegians continued this formula as they took early leads in both games. This [...]

Denver Generals Depth Leads Them to Victory Over Spradley Collegians

2021-06-25T13:08:42-07:00

By Ben Rossi In a league like the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League, it is imperative that coaches try to win. But it is also important to balance being competitive with giving each of their players playing time and the chance develop. The Denver Generals managed to do both in Thursday's 8-2 victory over the Spradley Collegians. This win marked both a chance for the Generals to start to turn their season around while avenging earlier losses on the year to that same  opponent. The win came  thanks to their hitting depth and exceptional pitching performances, something they have needed all [...]

Batters Box and Colorado Lumberjacks Split Doubleheader, in Two Very Different Games

2021-06-24T13:12:11-07:00

In baseball, each game is a new one regardless of how close in time it was played to the last one. Wednesday's doubleheader at All Star Park was a prime example of this. The two games between Batters Box and the Colorado Lumberjacks ended in opposite fashion. One on a walk-off, the other by a mercy rule blowout. Game 1 saw the two teams knotted up as each teams' pitchers kept the oppositions offense grounded.  Both teams emphasized better pitching and fundamental defense as the keys towards getting a competitive edge against the opposition as they each had something to prove. [...]

They led the team to a 9-5 victory over Batters Box on Monday. The Cannons were looking to get things going as they currently sit in second to last place in the league. 2021-06-21T15:54:42-07:00

The Colorado Lumberjacks currently sit half a game out of first place in the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League. They showed off both their pitching and hitting prowess in their doubleheader sweep of the NoCo Roughnecks on Sunday, in front of a crowd of happy families on father's day. In Game 1 the Lumberjacks got some early momentum thanks to a series of early wild pitches from the Roughnecks starter. Three wild pitches thrown in one at bat were what allowed all three of the first runs of the game to score. Each time that the Roughnecks responded with a run, [...]
