By Ben Rossi Two of the top four teams in the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League clashed on Sunday, but were stuck with two rain and lightning delays at Rock Canyon High School . The Colorado Lumberjacks and Fort Collins Bandits finally got underway at 4:45pm, a game in which the tables would turn dramatically. But it is also important to balance being competitive with giving each of their players playing time and the chance develop. The Denver Generals managed to do both in Thursday's 8-2 victory over the Spradley Collegians. This win marked both a chance for the Generals to start to turn their season around while avenging earlier losses on the year to that same  opponent. In baseball, each game is a new one regardless of how close in time it was played to the last one. Wednesday's doubleheader at All Star Park was a prime example of this. The two games between Batters Box and the Colorado Lumberjacks ended in opposite fashion. One on a walk-off, the other by a mercy rule blowout. Game 1 saw the two teams knotted up as each teams' pitchers kept the oppositions offense grounded.  Both teams emphasized better pitching and fundamental defense as the keys towards getting a competitive edge against the opposition as they each had something to prove. It is always a great day for a baseball team when they are hitting and scoring. It is an especially great luxury for a manager when the bottom hitter in his lineup bas a big day. The Colorado Cannons got exactly that from catcher and eighth place hitter Keaton Heyneman. He and starting pitcher Brady Mello each had big days. The Colorado Lumberjacks currently sit half a game out of first place in the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League. They showed off both their pitching and hitting prowess in their doubleheader sweep of the NoCo Roughnecks on Sunday, in front of a crowd of happy families on father's day. In Game 1 the Lumberjacks got some early momentum thanks to a series of early wild pitches from the Roughnecks starter. The Denver Generals had their sights set on turning their season around as they hosted the Fort Collins Bandits, a team who had already beaten them twice this season by scores of 15-2 and 7-3. With a 5-2 record and a substantial 35 runs put on the board in their last two games, Thunder Academy has been at the core of this hitting spectacle. Highlands Ranch, Colorado was the walk-off capital of baseball on Sunday. Offensive powerhouses Thunder Academy and the Colorado Lumberjacks went head-to-head in what was expected to be a thrilling set of two game seven innings doubleheaders under warm, but windy, conditions at Rock Canyon High School.
