COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Renegades snapped the Colorado Cyclones 10-game win streak on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 9-2 and 10-1 at Mountain Lion Park.“Our energy today was solid,” Renegades infielder Sam Cregan said. “We took what they gave us and it was a complete team effort. We came here locked in and I don’t think there was a minute where we thought we wouldn’t win today.”
Cregan (2-4, 4 RBI’s) highlighted an eight-run fourth, which helped end the contest after five innings. Jay Onken (5 IP, 4 K’s) earned the victory for Colorado Springs (17-8).
“When the opportunities were there, we took advantage of them,” Cregan said. “The momentum was on our side.
I didn’t try to do too much. The focus was on winning the game, not any one being the hero.”
In game two, the Renegades scored eight runs in the last three innings, to defeat the Cyclones (20-7). Onken (2-3, 3 RBI’s) led the way offensively, while Rodney Gregg (4 IP, 3 K’s) picked up the win.
“It didn’t feel like a second game, we picked up where we left off,” Cregan said. “The energy and momentum carried over.”
Colorado Springs will take its momentum to Pueblo to face Spradley on Sunday afternoon. Colorado will travel to Overland to face Prime Academy on Sunday, as well.
“We’re just focused on our next game,” Cregan said. “Whatever happens after that will happen. We’ve gotten close as a team this summer. It’s been a fun ride and we don’t want it to end.”
