DENVER — After doing due diligence, the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League has decided to cancel its 10th anniversary season, slated to start today (May 26). “The potential risks, lack of fields and government restrictions have caused far too many unknowns for us to move forward with a viable season,” league owner Amanda Kubec stated. “This decision was not made lightly. We tried to delay as furthest out as we could, but at the end of the day, the health and safety of our players, fans, staff and family was and is our first priority.” Kubec expressed that if fields open [...]

2019-08-04T15:16:29-07:00

BY NICK ROBINSON [email protected] WICHITA, KANSAS — After falling to the Fairbanks (Alaska) Goldpanners 5-10 on Thursday, the Colorado Cyclones did what they’ve done all season while facing adversity. Bounce back. “The win was huge for us,” Colorado head coach J.L. Buchanan said. “We hit really well against Fairbanks. We just couldn’t pitch or field really well. I felt good about San Antonio, though. The Angels made it to the semifinals last year and are a quality team. We were ready and had great pitching – that was the difference.” Darin Cook (4 IP, 4 K’s) led the Cyclones to an [...]

2019-07-22T17:10:31-07:00

BY NICK ROBINSON [email protected] JOHNSTOWN — An 11-3 run-rule defeat by the hands of the Denver Generals put J.L. Buchanan and the Colorado Cyclones at the crossroads. “After we got run-ruled by the Denver Generals, sitting at 10-5, Shane (Dyer) and I decided we needed to coach our butts off the rest of the summer,” Buchanan, head coach of the Cyclones said. “We were sick of watching these guys be average. I don’t think we’ve been run-ruled the last four years before that. We went on to win 10-straight games after that. It was a wakeup call for everyone.” The 10-game [...]

2019-07-04T10:56:46-07:00

BY NICK ROBINSON [email protected] DENVER – If you would have asked Amanda Kubec when she was a freshman in college about where her life would head, owning a baseball league would be near the bottom of the list. “I never in a million years, starting out as an art major (at Metropolitan State), would have guessed I would own a baseball league,” Kubec said. “Taking a sports management class as a hospitality major helped me spark my love and a realization, I could actually make a career of this.” Baseball wasn’t too big in Kubec’s life growing up, but her grandfather’s [...]
