COLORADO SPRINGS —After dropping a pair of games on Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Springs Renegades rebounded. They defeated the Northern Colorado Roughnecks by a final score of 9-6 on Monday afternoon at Mountain Lion Park, which ended a nine game homestand.

“It felt good,” Colorado Springs starting pitcher Brett Basye said. “I just liked how we hit the ball today and stayed up. We kept our composure and stuck with it.”

The Renegades (7-3) hopped on six runs in the first four innings. Basye, a Great Bend, Kansas native, felt the relief of his offense on the mound.

“I have played in the league for three years now,” he said. “My brother and his wife live here. So, it’s nice to come here for the summer and just play ball.”

It takes a lot of pressure off a pitcher. Especially when it’s close like that. You can get rattled a bit. But it comes down to staying in the zone. Just have to keep doing you.”

Basye (5 2/3 IP, 5 K’s) exited heading into the sixth inning, where the Roughnecks (2-5) pounced on four runs.

“I had faith in our hitting,” Basye added. “It was a little frustrating, because I had more in the tank. But I gave it over to the bullpen, and they got the job done.”

In the eighth inning, Colorado Springs created three insurance runs, to help put Northern Colorado away.

Riley Gregory and Zach Dammel combined for four RBI’s in the triumph. Brayden Barker dropped the decision for the Roughnecks, while Mikey Felton added two RBI’s offensively.

After playing 10 games in eight days, Basye felt the preparation off the field was just as important as on the field.

“It takes a lot of preparation,” Basye explained. “But at the same time, it takes a lot of relaxation. Getting your head right is just as important as the other parts.”

The Renegades travel to Johnstown on Wednesday to face the Colorado Cyclones at Nelson Farm. Northern Colorado faces Batter’s Box on Thursday at Frederick High School.

“It’s a good start,” Basye said. “We need to keep doing what we’ve done here at home with our away games, and hopefully we can get into first place.”
